Intersection of Art & Life

Thursdays have become "me days" lately. Art classes are over for the week, the house is reasonably clean and I allow myself the luxury of making art.

I started the day, setting up this painting on the dining room table. It's warmer here and I can tend the fire as I paint. Pádraig Ó Tuama is being interviewed on one of my favourite podcasts, On Being. Everything is ready and in place to start my "me day".

I sit down and make the mistake of looking over at the side table. Mittens! Eleven pairs of mittens calling out for hands to wear them.

Last November, we moved to the basement for 5 months when our daughter's family moved home from Australia. It seemed more sensible that their family of four occupy the top of the house and the two of us make the basement our home. Part of making the basement home was to find fun things to do there. Knitting was the answer for me.

I am going to go out on a limb here and auction these mittens and give the proceeds to my favourite community group: The Green Wood Coalition. I'll describe each pair above the image so you will know what to expect of them. Most are probably lifetime mittens and one pair might last a month.

If you are interested in supporting Green Wood Coalition in this way, go to my FaceBook page and join in the auction.
